Via Gombito ---
The name comes from the Latin compitum, meaning crossroads. In the Roman age it was the intersection between the decumanus maximus (Via Gombito Via Colleoni) and the cardo maximus (Via S. Lorenzo Via Mario Lupo). The medieval city developed on the structure of the Roman city, whose urban layout was characterized by the orthogonal meeting of streets, cardines (running north to south) and decumani (running east to west). Evidence of Roman Bergamo can be found in the Civico Museo Archeologico in Piazza Cittadella.
