Torre del Gombito ---
The term "Gombito" derives from the tower's location itself, which stands at compitum, that is at the intersection point between the cardo and the decumanus maximus of the Roman city (respectively via S. Lorenzo/via Mario Lupo and via Gombito). It was built in the 12th century and reaches today a height of 52 meters compared to the original 64. The tower has maintained its original appearance, characteristic of medieval defensive constructions. In the 16th century, two shops were opened on the ground floor on both sides. The building maintained a commercial purpose until the last decade of the twentieth century. Donated to the Municipality of Bergamo in 1877, the tower underwent a series of structural interventions that respected its perfect masonry technique and skilled constructive details.
