PIAZZA MASCHERONI (formerly Piazza Nuova) ---

Under Venetian rule, Piazza Mascheroni was the seat of the market. Inside one of the buildings surrounding it lies a small treasure: imposing cellar structures and floors of buildings from the medieval and Renaissance periods. Studies conducted between 1998 and 2011 brought to light remains of considerable importance: findings ranging from the protohistoric age to the Renaissance era. A retaining wall from the III/II century B.C. is the oldest discovery in this area. Remains that led to the discovery of the existence of apsed spaces with vaulted ceilings (now lost), reused in medieval and modern times as shops and warehouses.
