Fountain of San Pancrazio ---

The fountains built in the sixteenth century have characteristics very different from those of previous centuries, from an architectural and urban space placement perspective. While medieval fountains were built along streets and inserted beneath the arcades of buildings, those of the sixteenth century were added to an already consolidated urban context and had to be adapted to their surrounding locations. Thus the fountain of S. Pancrazio, designed in 1549 by Pietro and Leonardo Isabello, was positioned at the center of a square that already had its own geometric identity. For this reason as well, its base evokes the square and regular form.
