Angelini House ---

This ancient residence dating back to the 1200s and later restored in the second half of the 1900s served, among other functions, as the seat of the musical institute founded by Bavarian musician Simone Mayr during the 1800s. It was a charitable educational institution where the underprivileged could attend lessons: it was in this way that, from 1806 to 1815, the future composer who would become Bergamo's symbol was also admitted: Gaetano Donizetti. It is said that the student proved to be immediately very musically gifted, and learned the secrets of composition from masters such as Francesco Salari, Antonio Gonzales and Simone Mayr himself. Did you know that Donizetti also met Vincenzo Bellini here? He later wrote a requiem mass upon Bellini's death, which however was only performed many years later, in 1870 in the basilica of Santa Maria
