
Basilica di San Martino Vescovo ---
Located in the historic center of Alzano Lombardo, just outside Bergamo towards the Valle Serina, the Basilica di San Martino was granted the title of minor basilica in 1922 by Pope Pius XI. The earliest records concerning the basilica date back to 1023, when the church had very small dimensions, while the current structure dates from the seventeenth century. A three-nave building with five bays each, with the central nave being the tallest and widest. There are eight chapels, each dedicated to a saint or sacrament. In each chapel there are sculptures, inlays and paintings. You can admire important pictorial cycles including Agar by Giovanni Carnovali.
