The "Il Calepino" company combines in its name the enological and cultural values of the hilly area known as Valcalepio. In the Valcalepio Controlled Designation of Origin zone, Il Calepino extends its vineyards across morainic terraces (called Surúe), where the vine has always found an ideal home: the draining soil is perfect for achieving excellent grape ripeness and therefore wines with an intense, complex and typical bouquet. Founded in 1972 by Angelo Plebani's initiative, since 1978 it has produced excellent classic method sparkling wines, linked to the name of Fra Ambrogio known as il calepino, author in the 1500s of the first Latin vocabulary that became famous after his death as CALEPINUS and was published as a polyglot dictionary. Today the company produces a complete range of products with Valcalepio DOC designation.
