The most evocative and "local" way to move from Città Bassa to Città Alta is through the "scalette" (little staircases). As the name suggests, these are exclusively pedestrian pathways, stepped and paved with characteristic cobblestones or stone tiles. They wind upwards, bordered by ancient dry stone walls, passing through fields, terraced orchards and gardens of beautiful villas: the scenery that unfolds before you will enchant you at every step. The scalette are also loved by athletes seeking training: they are indeed traffic-free routes, peaceful and evocative. The Scorlazzone is the natural continuation of the Scorlazzino, which rises from Città Bassa, and with its 162 flat but sloping steps is certainly one of the most challenging.
