Brunone Refuge ---
The oldest among the refuges of the Italian Alpine Club, positioned between Pizzo del Diavolo di Tenda, also called Cervino Bergamasco, and Recastello, it stands at 2297m, located below Passo della Scaletta on a grassy terrace with an unparalleled view. Named after one of the pioneers of Orobian mountaineering, Antonio Baroni, in the distant 1879 it was merely a hut, built as a shelter for miners heading to Valtellina, and a few years later, in 1890, it was used as a refuge during the ascent of Pizzo Redorta by a group of CAI members from Bergamo who had the idea of improving the old abandoned hut and transforming it into the refuge we know today. The distinction for highest altitude belongs to Rifugio Tagliaferri, but Brunone certainly deserves the title for the most difficult to reach
