Museum of the Basilica of Gandino ---

The museum of the Basilica of Gandino, designed to collect the numerous artworks of the parish, was conceived by provost Monsignor Giovanni Bonzi and inaugurated on December 15, 1929, among the first of its kind in Italy. It preserves the extraordinary treasures that faith, generosity, and cultural ambition of the community and wealthier families have donated to the churches of Gandino from the 15th century to the present day. The project of a museum to house the treasures of the Basilica was also championed by Monsignor Angelo Roncalli at the time, who visited Gandino several times. The location was identified in the house of the Vicar, a 16th century palace located near the Basilica. The museum, inadequate in size to accommodate the rich collection of artworks acquired over the centuries, was restructured and expanded.
