Il Fontanone ---
Together with those in Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe and Piazza Mascheroni, it formed a system of cisterns capable of providing the population with a considerable water reserve during droughts, as well as during any periods of siege. It was fed by the Magistral aqueduct and was the largest of the cisterns in Città Alta. At the center of the long side of the cistern, a marble plaque commemorates that the Fontanone was built in 1342 based on a project by Giovanni da Corteregia and Giacomo da Correggio, during the time of the rule of the Visconti Signoria of Giovanni and Luchino Visconti.
