Along the scenic route that climbs from the Longuelo neighborhood to Borgo Canale, between the two wonderful Bergamo valleys, the Conca d'Astino and the Conca d'Oro, you will encounter along the way the small Chiesa di San Martino della Pigrizia. Contrary to what one might think, San Martino has nothing to do with laziness, quite the opposite! The name of this place derives from a purely geographical matter: the portion of land on the slope of the Valle d'Astino, unlike that of the Conca d'Oro, is by nature less exposed to the sun's rays and for this reason cultivation in this area proceeds more slowly. Over time, the inhabitants of the place began to assign "laziness" as a nickname to this portion of land, thus emphasizing its 'lazy' character. The church
