Parish Church and Chapel of Peace ---
The Church of San Giovanni Battista is closely linked to the future Pope John XXIII. In 1902, when the foundation stone was blessed, he was among the crowd, at that time a simple seminarian. Due to some water infiltration, it was soon closed and restored. At its reopening in 1929, it was Angelo Roncalli, who had meanwhile become bishop, who reconsecrated it. Next to it you can then visit the Chapel of Peace, which contains an inlay of Pope John made up of as many as 70,000 pieces of wood!
