Church of S.Nicolò ai Celestini ---
The Church and Monastery of the Celestines were built in 1300, in the borough that was once called Plorzano and is now Santa Caterina. The simple architectural lines and structure reflect the canons of the Benedictine Order, far from ostentation; however, over the centuries the church was enlarged and in the 1600s made more "baroque," with a grand staircase and the addition of frescoes, stuccos and carvings inside. You can also visit the adjoining small medieval Cloister, with a square floor plan, the portico and the large Cloister, with four corner stone pillars and fourteenth-century capitals. The Monastery was closed at the end of the 1800s, while the Church, after a period of deconsecration, was restored and returned to the city and to worship in 1939.
