Walking along via Colleoni in Bergamo alta, you will come across a small side alley called "Sant'Agata" at a certain point. Here stood the original church of the same name, in the building that today houses "Il circolino", a gathering and refreshment spot well known to Bergamo residents. With the deconsecration of this church carried out by Napoleon in the nineteenth century, the nearby church S. Maria Annunciata belonging to the Carmelite convent took the name of Sant'Agata nel Carmine, by which it has come down to us. The Carmelite monastery, active since 1391, was also closed at the end of the eighteenth century.
